What lighting mode should you choose according to your needs?

In order to adapt to all your trail running, choose between the following:- High mode (300 lm) for long range. Very long range- Low mode (120 lm) for more battery life- Ambient mode (30 lm) with its soft lighting, so that you can read a map and provide short-range lighting- Flashing mode (300 lm) is practical for attracting attention in the event of dangerFinally, the high and eco modes have a reserve so that you have 1 h of lighting at 50 lm when the battery is fully discharged.

Lumens, range and lighting – how does it work?

A lumen, abbreviated to lm, is a measure of the lighting power emitted by an LED. The 2 lenses and 4 lighting modes therefore give you a choice between soft, high or moderate lighting. With its wide beam, the OnNight 710 effectively spreads the light over a range of a few metres in front of you, while also having the option to deliver a 75 m beam in high mode. And thanks to its constant lighting feature, the intensity of the torch does not drop as the battery charge diminishes.

How to manage your battery and battery life

The OnNight 710 is designed for middle-distance trail running: It delivers a battery life of 3 h in high mode, 6 h in low mode and 12 h in eco mode. And to avoid any nasty surprises, remember to check the weather conditions: when the temperature drops below zero, the battery life of lithium batteries drops.

Keep an eye on your battery life and easily recharge your torch.

The battery of your head torch has a battery charge indicator that lights up when you switch on the torch: practical feature for checking your battery life when you are preparing your trail running bag or just before starting out.To recharge your torch easily, the battery is compatible with all micro-USB cables. Indeed, the cable provided is angled: it will be easier for plugging your torch into a portable charger in your backpack during your trail run.

A design that is for added comfort:

In addition to being more powerful, your head torch is light: weighing only 120 g, it saves a lot of space. Indeed, its weight is spread between the rechargeable battery at the back of the head and the lighting block at the front (naturally), thereby spreading the load more evenly and reducing any pendulum effect. And thanks to its adjustment wheel, you can easily choose your lighting mode, even while running.

How to optimise your battery life

Sébastien and Gaëtan, trail running engineer and project manager, give you their advice for using your head torch for trail running:"There is often a tendency to do the opposite, but it is more effective to start running with the head torch in low mode and finish in high mode. At the start, when you are surrounded by other trail runners, you can use the other sources of light to stay in a low lighting mode or even switch off your torch. This will save power for the end of the run."

Keep and maintain your torch for longer thanks to the warranty, after-sales service and spare parts.

DECATHLON products include a 2-year warranty. Indeed, at Decathlon, we have a "satisfied or satisfied" policy: don't hesitate to bring your head torch back to the store if it is defective. What's more, the DECATHLON parts are available for 2 years after purchase at the workshop of your local store.

What is the ipx4 waterproof classification?

The waterproofing of your trail running torch complies with the IPX4 standard. In theory, this means that your torch can withstand water splashes (10 L per minute for 5 minutes). In practice, this means that you do not have to hold back when trail running for fear of the rain or water splashes. And to make sure of this, we put our prototypes in the shower for long periods of time!

No angle adjustment and didn't last too long

Pleased with the light and the different settings. Battery lasted long enough for me. No way of changing the angle so I had to make a little wedge which also acted as a bit of padding. After about 10 months the light started turning itself on and shortly after that it started to change settings on it's own while on a run. I would recommend this light if you could change the angle of the beam and the fault could be addressed. For the price it is a great introductory light to night running.

3 years life...

I bought this in 2019 and it's worked brilliantly, until suddenly the battery would appear to charge but then no light would come on unless it was plugged in. Obviously I can go running with something that might be unreliable. Reading other reviews, this appears to be a common indication of a battery fault or end of life, perhaps. I've bought a new one, and will see how this lasts, but feel it's a waste of resources that this doesn't last longer.

Onnight 710

Great head torch, good battery life, excellent build quality, comfortable when running and barely noticeable weight. Illuminated a very good distance in pitch darkness.
