The easiest way to work out how long your laces need to be is to compare them with your old laces. But the number of eyelets also gives you a good indication

Round laces:Advantage: they slide better through the eyelets, making them easier to tighten with a more even tightening force.Weakness: they come undone more quickly.Flat laces:Advantage: they are less likely to come undone.Weakness: they slide less easily through the eyelets and are therefore more difficult to tighten.
