Our cast iron plates are made from at least 80% recycled cast iron

Since 2018, our teams have been gradually integrating recycled materials until we reached the perfect balance. Following several years of experiments, Decathlon is replacing its entire range of cast iron products with recycled cast iron made from at least 80% scrap metal and steel waste – a real feat for the world of metal! To ensure that the quality is the same as classic cast iron, tests are carried out in partner laboratories.

Our coach's tip for using your weight training plates

Load your dumbbell with two 2 kg cast iron weights and start a set. Shoulder exercise: - Military press with dumbbells 3×10 reps Keep a 2 rep margin at the end of each set. Add reps as the weeks progress, then add weight, and start again with just 10 reps. The advantage of these weights is that they allow you to adjust the load based on your needs and the muscle groups you're working.

Add disc collars for your safety

To train safely, your weight training plates need to stay in place as you exercise. That's where the disc collar comes in! This little accessory locks the weights onto your bar or dumbbell. Our Smart Disc Collars are sold in pairs (ref: 8574652). Note that their weight limit in a vertical position is 15 kg.

Why choose cast iron instead of plastic or vinyl bumper weights?

- Cast iron is a dense material that is more compact than vinyl, which means you can add more discs to the bar (up to 32 kg on one dumbbell bar) - Cast iron lasts a lifetime, unlike plastic or vinyl, which can wear out within a year. - Cast iron is less affected by temperature changes so you can use it in a range of conditions.

What weight training bars or dumbbells can be used with this 2 kg disc?

To use this 2 kg cast iron weight, you'll need a 28 mm bar such as: - 1.2 meter straight bar (ref: 8289897) - 1.2 metre curl bar (ref: 8484124) - 86 cm triceps bar (ref.: 8484125) - 35 cm short bar (ref.: 1041986) - 45 cm threaded bar (ref.: 8766096) - 1.55 metre straight bar (ref: 8289896) - 2 m straight bar (ref.: 8289900) This weight is not compatible with a 50 mm diameter bar.

Proper storage of cast iron weight training discs

Humidity is the enemy of your weight training plates! That's why it's important not to store them outdoors or in a basement. Here are a few tips to help your weights last longer: - Store them in a dry place - Dust them when needed with a microfibre cloth - Store them on a wall mount for discs (ref: 8796727), on the bottom of a piece of furniture, or on your storage rack (ref: 8788246)
